Newport Report: 8/3/24

Had a fun morning on the water in the float tube. Launched CGB at 6 and the bite was hot for the first hour and fifteen minutes, landed five fish in that period! But then after that it shut down for me. I called it a wrap around 10. I ended up with five total and 4 different species! 2 Spotties (one legal), 1 Calico, One 15” Hali (flopped off my deck as I was trying to take the pic) and one White Sea Bass!

Excuse my piggyback on your report, but while I was reading your fishing report, it brought back a great memory of me with my fishing partner Jason (that I also surf-fished with) who introduced me to the sport of float tube fishing and to FTFF.

Jason took me on my maiden voyage with my BN FishCat Deluxe-4 float tube in NPH and I landed my 1st legal Halibut there that day from a float tube, a healthy lil’ 25” barn-door (C P & R).
I landed it on a Big Hammer bait.
I just luv that harbor!!

I’m honored to have you share that story on my thread! I never had the chance to meet you but have heard how legendary you are in our SoCal float tube world. Someday I’ hope to catch a legal Hali from my tube!

Your odds of landing a barn door will definitely increase with the more time you spend on the water.
Time on the water, your determination and your perseverance will get you to your end goal.

I will definitely be looking forward to reading your, not so distant, fishing report for when you do finally land your first legal halibut from your float tube!
Believe me … that day will come sooner than you can imagine!
