Lately, I've had a couple of friends ask me about fishin from shore or a pier. When do you need a license to fish Saltwater.?? I was under the impression that anytime you go, you need a license for Saltwater. pirat

the pier is only the place that I am aware of that you dont need a fishing license. there are few times of ayear that the DFG has no license day where you can fishing anywhere you.

From Santa Barbara on South to fish on the jettys or beach you'll need an Ocean Enhancement Validation add-on to your license ($5.14). but keep in mind this also validates you if you fish from a boat also. If fishing on a one day license the Ocean Enhancement is included in the price. As mentioned above piers don't normally require a license, but it's always best to check beforehand as some local laws may vary.
