I hadnt fished Irvine in a long while so last week I decided today would be the day. But the moment my gf got wind of it, she wanted to go. So my pontoon had to stay home.

Got to the lake just past 6am, paid an arm and a leg, and got onto the water about 6:30. I missed this lake and it was nice to not have a crowd.
Started trolling a couple of flickershads up the west shore and halfway to the dam, the firetiger got hit. Landed a really nice 4lb rainbow.

We trolled for a couple more hours for sight seeing because no other trout wanted to play.

Decided to switch to fishing for catfish. I brought cooked shrimp as was suggested on a previous post, but also brought some mac. Anchored up in the flats just behind trout island and had one rod with mac, one rod with chicken liver and two on shrimp.
The rod with a mac got hit about 20 min later and it turned out to be a 5lb channel cat.

The rest of the day was uneventful, but i did get a nice back massage from my gf. I heard later at the pro shop that someone caught a 50 some odd pound blue off rocky point.

Just cooked a batch of catfish fries (but I use panko flakes instead of corn meal) and they were delicious!

Yeah, its always great to beat the skunk early. Action was a little slow, but a 4lb bow and 5 lb cat, Ill chalk this up to quality over quantity, a few of the lake staff had mentioned to me that was the biggest trout theyve seen in a few weeks come out of the lake...although, at the cleaning stations, I did not see any cats smaller than 5 lbs from the other fishermen!
