It seems that every time I go out fishing, I’ll learn something new or I’ll figure out a different way of looking at the same approach.

For the past three months I’ve been going back-and-forth between a 6’ long leader, a 3’ long leader and an 18” long leader.

I haven’t come to a final decision which leader length is best yet, but I was curious about what everybody else was doing for lengths of leader and why.

I tend to go longer. I go anywhere from 6-7 feet because of break offs and having to retie my lure. I don't want to retie my whole leader when I am on the tube.

I usually fish a 3' leader but after seeing your guys numbers I am going to try a 6' one..... Thanks for the idea of trying different lengths!

I like to fish a leader the length of the rod I am using 6' normally.  Once I am half my rod length its time to change.

I am assuming leader to braid here.
I like to use a 6 to 10 foot leader for the same reasons as Toby. I can retie several times and I really don't like to tie on to braid on the water.

I used to tie short 18” leaders but I found that more often than not, I’d need to retie the entire thing due to line damage. I use about 5 yards and go from there so it minimizes the amount of time I spend fooling around with knot pullers while on the water

Hi ya Kin,
15’ leader it is for you.
How short do you let it get before you tie on a new leader?

HeyToby,
That’s the direction that I normally lean as well.
But I try to stay open minded and I try to learn new ways. Thank you for sharing.

Great advice Jeff, thank you for sharing! Thumbs Up
So it’s between 3’ and 6’ for you.

I feel the leader length is determined by the baits I use. If it's live bait I use a 20 to 30 ft. leader. Remember braid floats, falls at a different rate than other lines do. Live bait doesn't have to fight the braid, more natural. When I'm fishing HUB's, 5/8 to 1.5 oz, I use a shorter leader. In the bays fish straight co-polymer.....for me it's presentation..............GT

True ... presentation is a huge factor.
Thanx GT for chiming-in and sharing you knowledge! Thumbs Up
