I probably have a backlog of fishing reports, but we'll start with today's outcome.
Location: Perry CCC Lake, Perry, OK
Lake Details: 1 mile of shoreline. Maximum known depth is 32ft. No other known details of the lake.
Time: 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Conditions: Partly cloudy. Light wind from 9-15 mph from the NNE. Lightly wooded shoreline cuts down on gust.
Air Temperature: Starting - 88ºF; Ending - 83ºF
Water Temperature: 80.6ºF
Common Fish Depths: 6ft-13ft
Location on Lake: About 20ft off shore. Quick drop off to 10+ feet withing 6ft of the shore. Bottom composition likely silt, but may have sporadic small rocks. Structure was located at fishing site. Likely a fallen tree.
Flotation Device: Customized Classic Accessories Cumberland
Rod & Reel: Open-face rod. 8lb line. 6ft light action rod.
Bait: Predominately red and white plastic tube jib on 1/8oz white with red eyes external jighead hook. Tied two to a line with one about 18-24" above the one at the bottom. A red and white H&H single blade spinnerbait was tossed around for fun from time to time. No fish on the spinnerbait.
Today was about like any other day. Took my wife, daughter, and two dogs down to the local recreational lake for some afternoon fun. For the past couple weeks, I've been doing well with white crappie and small largemouth bass (8-12" range) on crappie tube jigs and small Spoiler Shad. I figured I would repeat what I've been doing. I changed it up a little by fishing at the mouth of a cove near the boat ramp for a bit and got 5 white crappie in the basket. Got tired of fighting the wind, so I thought I would try my usual location hoping that maybe there might be a windbreak. Once I got around the corner of the point close to my "honey hole", I realized that with the wind out of the north, I'd just be fighting it the whole time. As I got to the drop off spot, I managed to hone in on a sunken tree (I think) that I knew nothing about. After breaking my line off three times losing 5 jigs in the process, pulling up a 6ft thick stick, and tying everything back on, I probably lost 30 minutes of fishing time easily. Hand plenty of bites in the hot spot, but only got 4 more in the basket along with about a 10" bass. A couple of the fish spit up baby shad. In fact, after the last break off I decided to head back home and on a fun retrieve back with the H&H Spinnerbait, I managed to impale (read as 'catch') the smallest fish I've ever caught. Of course, with this lake being as small as it is with what it lacks in large fish, it more than makes up for in quantity of fish. Looking forward to getting out some time during the winter or spring when this lake is stocked with trout.
Final Count: 9 white crappie caught. 3 white crappie lost at float tube. 1 10" largemouth bass. 1 1" baby fish (unknown species)
