Just how well do the oars that come with pontoons work? Is it easier and less work than kicking in a float tube? (ugh!) And do you actually stay dry while sitting up on a pontoon? What if there's a large wave made by a nearby moving boat's wake? Do you get your butt wet?

Very very well. You can get from point A to point B in a fraction of the time compared to kicking, with less stress on your body (back and legs vs arms and back). It would take me a good 20min to do heavy kicking to cover 1/2 mile. Oars, I can cover that distant in less than 5 minutes. When I'm at my location, I switch over to fins.

You betcha. You stay nice and dry. If you don't want your butt to get wet, you can retrofit a 45° thin plastic plate shielding to prevent the water from splashing you. I have one. Will show it to you later after my finalized mod on my own toon. When a wake comes, same thing. You only get wet if your toon sits low on the water, and your seat is pretty much at the water level.
