I use to buy regular plastics for my swimbaits, grubs, and worms. As the lizard fish population exploded in the harbor I got tired of changing my plastics with broken off tails. I now only buy the Strike King Elaztech plastics and the Z-man super plastics. These plastics have proven themselves time and time again. They claim they are 10X stronger than regular plastics.
I know I had a Strike King Elaztech white grub one day last summer and I caught spotties all day long with my friend on his Bay Runnner. I caught 50 fish in one day and I never had to change the grub! I even used the grub on the next trip. I just got my first shipment of 4 inch Glass Minnows Blue Glimmer pearl belly. Blue speckles and silver glitter. Nice! My Z-man order will be here on Monday. You use to be able to buy the Strike King Elaztechs at Walmart but the enviromentalist have struck again. They no longer carry the Elaztech just the regular plastic ones. Thank God for the internet.

Very cool I to have some issues with losing baits faster than I would like. But I am not sure about switching plastics I like what I use so far but maybe I should look into these more. Thanks for the info.

Dang lizard fish. I've noticed this year that the lizard fish I catch are a lot bigger than what i've caught in the past. I might have to try some of those plastics out. Hows the action of them?

Ironicly they are softer than regular plastics. They are bouyant, and they have excellent action in the water. But be careful....... once you go to the super plastics you won't return to the other side. Wink

What are the rules with lizard fish? Are you allowed to dispatch them, keep them for chum or anything? I read online a while ago that their population is growing rapidly which is pressuring other fish like spotties and sand bass. I believe the OP suggested to release them alive if you catch them, but I'm not sure about the regulations on them and don't want to keep them for chum if they need to be a certain length.

Ok since that's usually what I end catching up I'll just bring a chum bag for them next time.

I kill them and give them to the pelicans if they are around. Otherwise I kill them and let them swim with the fishes. I didn't tell you? I believe in recycling.

Check out Elaztech on you tube.
Here is on of many videos;

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

There are three pages of videos on Elaztech.
A lot of these videos are pro tips on how to actually use these plastics. Take a few minutes and watch them. You will become a better fisherman if you incorporate these methods with these baits.
I don't just go fishing. I go fishing and then once I get home I think about what did I do on the water? Was it effective? And if not then what could I have done to increase my catch? A lot of us get into our own little ruts on how we fish certain lures. I like to change things up when needed. Bottom rig, Texas or Carolina rig, and occasionaly a lead head.
Fishing is like a math equation with many variables. Type of bait, color, action, presentation, technique. When you find the right variables to the equation you will catch many fish in one outing. With Elaztech finesse and twitching the bait with the rod tip, and rigging are the key.
A lot of guys will go with lead heads in the harbor or bay but I prefer to use a torpedo and a dropper loop. I set the loop two and a half feet up and use the lightest weight to feel the grass. Twitch the rod tip and your on! This rig has proven itself time and time again. It drives the spotties and butts crazy. I always bring one, two, and three ounce torpedos. As with all bays and harbors current movement is also a necessary variable to the equation. Thumbs Up

They had the Z-man plastics at Jimmy's Outdoors at the FHS. at a better price than the website
Talked to the Z-man rep at the Plano booth and learned what his favorite ways to rig their baits
