Dumb a$$ that caught it should have had a Valid fishing license..

Woah thought i already posted this here...guess not? Either way I saw it the other day and I'm glad he didn't get the record.....if he didn't catch that fish he would have kept on fishing illegally.....dumba$$.

this is sad and yet very funny as well. I hope the person gets the max fines possible.

Not that I`m in his favor but at least he should`ve buy the license THEN report the catch; or cpr the fish and shut up about it!

I wonder if the bass lived, or not..? I know when you apply for an ifga record, the fish has to die. You catch a 7lb spottie, and have it certified, it dies..

With that hefty fine, that's some expensive fish.. about $63/lb!!

the article says the fish was biopsied for genes study of its generation

Same for the world record LMB from Japan..or any record fish caught.

I heard a story awhile back, that some guy caught a 7lb spottie, I think it was NPH, mighta been SD..anyways, instead of trying to claim a state record, he released the fish to have little spotties.. instead of being killed. Not sure if that's a true story, just what I heard.

i heard the same thing hammer but it was from long beach, somewhere around pier point landing inside of that cove

Even if it's not true, I love that idea!
So next time I catch a record-breaking fish (ha!), I'm just going to photograph the heck out of it, measure it , weigh it, film it, witness it...
then release it back to have big babies.

Mass, that may be another fish. I vividly recalling the guy who got the 7 bl'r around here did release it.

You might be right Hammer. The guys who held this one said it was 7 pounds...not positive though. 7 pounders DO exist though...im a believer!

O.K., the calif state spotted bay bass record is 6lbs 12oz and was caught in NPH..Although that's not the bass in question, thought some of you might be interested in that.

Those are some Big spotties..to bad they are dead..
