Do they only come with the AA battery hookup or can you hook it up to another seperate 12v source

I have an older model. It has a place for two C-cells.

All newer units takes AA, I'm sure there is way to rewire it but why waste time and money doing that

I have the 140 C, it has two connectors, one for sonar and one for power, with the right connector I assume you could use a different power source.

My 120 has 3 connector ports on the back. One for the transducer, one for the built-in battery pack, and one for......I'm not sure! Lol

As mefishto said, I imagine that you could get a power cord to use with another source.

I stand corrected, the 140 also has the third connector that I don't know what is for either. Haha!

Just curious for now.. money wouldn't be a factor as I can get batteries and rewire wouldn't be a problem..Time,, I got lots of. Only lookin at it as it seems to be a simple on/off thing for my inflatable..not the tube. Will probably go with another one I've looked at.. again was just curious.. thanx for the input.. Cool

"Waste of time" figure of speech but it is waste of the extra money.
Lowest price for a FB is what $130 plus wiring and a different power option ($40)

I'm just saying IMO for the amount of money and maybe few $$ more you can get way better stand alone unit (FF).

They are both very simple to mount. On & off.

Found this info in the manual...

Occasionally, the Fishin’ Buddy® may falsely mark objects other than fish. This can occur with air bubble streams from nearby boats or air filled swim ladders. This can also occur when the Fishin’ Buddy® is aimed at a cement or rock wall due to a
double reflection effect
. The 100 Series™ Fishin’ Buddy® is designed to eliminate false readings, especially with the filter on. Due to the strength of the signal, it is possible to fool and thus, get an occasional false reading if the unit is working from a stationary, non-moving boat or a pier. The SideFinding™ filter allows the Fishin’ Buddy® to be much more selective in marking fish. Use the filter around docks and other structures in the water.

The info about a "double reflection effect" may be what you experienced. I need to play around with my 140c some more in those types of situations.

I think you are correct, it seems filters are needed when fishing in lakes
thanks for the info
