I'm just wondering should we always wear waders when going out fishing on a tube or is it ok to go without?

Winter and spring a must.... unless you live in Hawaii but summer time comes around and warms up to 70 in the ocean and Lake perris can get really hot too in the summer

All city lakes in San Diego County require waders.

I was actually thinking of this very subject today going over which tube I'm going to buy. I do pretty well in the cold (doesn't bother me too much), and if it got hot while wearing them, I would probably tear them off.

But seeing this, and knowing I'm moving to San Diego within the next month or two, I might as well just get them anyway.

Since you are purchasing a wader for usage, and I recently got mine in the past few months, don't burn yourself with the cheapy neoprene, or kill yourself with the expensive ones. I got myself the Frogg Toggs HellBender, Medium. I'm 5'10", 180lbs, with huge trunk legs and butt, with 48" chest. Fit perfectly, with room to wiggle around, bend over, and do the samba in the water. Extremely comfy, dry, and will be retrofitting a piss bladder for the long water ride, while chugging down my 64oz coffee.

Amazon = $99 and free shipping, with no tax.

Me and my brothers never wear waders, even in the winter. We just use our wetsuits that we have for surfing, and wear dive fins.

Everyones spot on here with replies. I would add that in salty bay fishing in summer I still wear my breathables. But thats just my preference. Very Happy

Breathable for the salty is a must, if you're spending a long period of time in/on the salt. It's not about the saltwater, but more of the what's in the water that's of concern. Same with the freshwater. If it's only for an hour or two, not a problem. Anything more than 2 hours straight, best to have your wader. San Diego freshwater regulations went crazy due to the "303D Listed Water Bodies". Introduction of bacteria/pathogen from human contacts for drinkable water is a no-no. It gotten pretty bad, since our water supplies are on the extreme low, and becoming extremely precious. Increase of pathogenic and bacterial sources into the dwindling sources of drinkable water simply increase the costs of cleanup..A pain, but better to be a bit of a pain than to pay an arm and a leg for water.

Here is the thing, we don't live in South America or some other foreign country where we need to worry about our ways and S**t swimming up into us.
Our ocean are fine, growing up (35yrs) in or on the water (salt) I have never gotten sick or anything.
If your worried about catching something from being on the water or in it pick up another sport or stay home!

For wearing waders or not, that's something more personal that only you can answer. Myself, I wear breatherables waders all year long when fishing the salt cause I don't like being in cold water anymore. LP in the summer it's just shorts.

miller, I don't think we have to worry about things swimming up our orifices for a long while Razz

However, just be sure to keep up with the info though. It's not about what's swimming up into our body, but what's coating our bodies, sipping through our skins (and/or wounds)/mouth/nose/eyes. But you're right. It's one's judgment to wear or not to wear. I like to be in my shorts during summer time as well, if I know the water I'm at is safe and allowable. Special case, like Jenks Lake, or Lake Elsinore (near the preserve and fishery next to the water treatment plant), always best not to go against the advisories.
