Salton Sea?! The pit of despair?! Red Smile

Don't worry. I've check on up on the water quality, including the fish tissue analytical data for 2011 to 2013. Guess what? Salton Sea much cleaner than Big Bear, Lake Perris, Newport Beach, and even Lake Tahoe. Yep..you got that right.

The lake is now officially deemed as REC1 lake. Full body contact all day if you wish, without the feeling of something is going to eat you alive from the outside/inside in/out.

Fish is great to eat as well. Tilapia is off the hook. Went with family to day, to introduce my wife and kids to their first time at the Sea. The lake was literally on fire with bites. The second the dropshot (2-hooks) hit the water with live baits (largest nightcrawlers in segment of 1.5" or more), your offerings will be met with violent hooksets.

Float tubes, kayak, or whatever boat you want to use, can be launched starting at the south Mecca HQ ramp.

Surface temp: 81°F at 6AM. 100°F at 1PM.
Water surface temp: 72°F at 6AM. 80°F at 1PM.

Hot zone: 15ft to 35ft transition zones, which is about 125ft from rocky shore. This is the migration zone for the schools, as well as beds..lots and lots and lots of beds.

You will be dragged from beach or launch site to mid lake by your friendly tilapia.

Bait: Don't even dare use anything else but live nightcrawlers. Your biggest and juiciest. Otherwise, it will be turned down.

Rig: dropshot is the best, out-rigged with 2 or 3 hooks. Each hook will be met by a hungry mouth.

Lines: start at 8lbs. Best is 10lb to 15lbs. Don't matter if you use braid, mono, or flouro. Fishes only care about the worms.

Wind conditions: light breeze between 3 to 5mph. 10mph will kick up once in a while. Fishes will stay in the deep zone. This is where boat/tube will be the best weapon for search and destroy mission.

Catch limit: No such thing.
Eating limit: You'll die from inflammatory responses from omega 6 oil before you die from the bio-accumulation toxicity from fish tissues.

Areas to stay away from: Red Hill (southern most portion of the lake. Wind and current from the northern area prevent the contamination from causing issues with the fishes near the Salt Creek and Mecca Beach HQ fishing areas.

So..tight lines salute

Leo forgot to mention this important thing.. that if you go out on your float tube (which would be awesome), go out early to avoid the killer heat, and the the strong afternoon winds that kick up in that wide open area. If that strong wind is blowing against you when you are trying to kick back in, good luck!
