I've been looking at getting breathable waders and not just because I'm cheap (which I am) but more out of convenience I offer my first question here ...

Does anyone wear a wetsuit rather than waders?
I have a diving background and have several suits I could use for tubing. I think a 2mm sleeveless triathlon suit would be ideal though.

I have no problem being wet. I used to (many years ago) scrub boat bottoms and being in a wet wetsuit doesnt really bother me too much. Plus I have my own personal insulation layer

Look forward to hearing responses

Btw my tubing will be in both fresh and salt water

Thanks

Dan

welcome to the forums a wet suit would not be a problem its all personal reference if you have a wet suit already and u dont mind being in it for a while then wear the wet suit and dont waste your money on waders

Wet suit is fine if you are fine with being wet, cheap is the smart way.

I'm not sure about the bodies of water that you are fishing but wet suits are not allowed in San Diego reservoirs.

Watercraft
Float Tubes and Waders
Waders or hip boots must be worn at all times while wading for the purpose of fishing.
The definition of a "Float Tube" is a floating device which suspends a single occupant in the water from the seat down and is not propelled by oars, paddles, wind (sail) or motors. You may not use a paddle to assist movement. You may use fins which fasten to your feet or hands.
Waders (or hip boots) must be in sound condition and completely cover the immersed portion of an angler's body so as to prevent sustained, direct body contact with the water. No wetsuits.
Waders must be worn at all times while float tube fishing. Use of float tubes restricted to within 150 feet or less from shore.
A U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device must be readily available at all times while float tube fishing. All float tube anglers must possess a readily available horn or whistle to warn approaching craft.

A 2mm wetsiut will work fine in the salt/harbors. Check with the lake you plan on fishing to make sure they allow wetsuits.

OK I gotta ask.. Why are wet suits not allowed at San Deigo lakes??

Wet suits allow excrement and full lower body contact. Possibility of bodily fluids get introduced into the drinking water supply.

If they won't allow wetsuits, aren't those lakes the one's that usually don't allow tubes?? Just askin

Nope! But the funny thing is a couple allow water contact sports. Well, one right now, until San Vicente reopens. Been closed since 2009 for Dam "improvements". Best lake in the county.

Well if you are warm in them it will serve the same purpose as waders, but with waders you can wear warm clouthes under it, I need some waders also, but money is hard to get now, then I want a fish finder and mount.AND AND AND

Maybe Santa will get me some

Santa is broke this year due to the economy being in such bad shape, He has had to lay off half his elves until further notice. Anyone looking to buy a used sled.. Good shape.. Will float with the right magic... Reindeer not included...
