A bit of a late report but here it goes:
Got to the lake at about 7:30 and there were a bunch of people on shore, boat and float tube. I was fishing with powerbait and lures but the hot bite was on nightcrawlers. I was adjacent to a dude who seemed to be just yanking them in one after the other. He limited out before 10 and then went and re upped the pass.
I, on the other hand, could not land one. I asked the guy what he was using and of course it was night crawlers. He ended up giving me a few and also recommended I inflate them. He also said that they were biting the black and yellow panther martin. I proceeded to tie on the worm with some garlic powerbait (to make it float) and rig my other rod with the panther. Sure enough within 5 mins of soaking the worm it was bit! I landed the fish and then retrieved the panther I cast before the worm was bit, again FISH ON! After the obligatory pics I was back to casting the martin and soaking the worm and powerbait. The bite slowed so I began to troll both rods.
After trolling near the crowds and getting nothing I decided to go to the dam side where there was no one fishing. I trolled the worm and panther for a while and not a bite. I stopped for a bit to work the shore, moving slowly down the back of the lake fan casting as I went, when my bait rod goes bent. FISH ON! I fight what felt like a heavy but lazy trout. When I reeled it to surface it turned out to be a 6# plus catfish! Only non trout species I saw all day.
All in all it was a good fishing day on the tube. Not sure when I'll go back cus it's 33 bucks to fish.
