Hello from Va

  Hello,
                I just found the site today,most of my fishing is in the Mts or on the river from a canoe.I have had a float tube for years but didn't use it much.This year I decided to fish more still water than moving & my tube was the first thought. I have the Trout Unlimited  U shape tube, its not a bad float,I also have a double rod holder for it that's it for now I need a light anchor system not sure what it will be yet.Im looking forward to learning from all the members.

Welcome to the forum fishn bum, There is a lot of cool peps here to help you out with tips and rigs. I myself can help out as well. As for the anchor, I use to use a 5lb anchor all the time in the beginning till I started loosing fish, weather the fish wrapped around my anchor and snapped off or trying to bring up my anchor while the fish is close to spooling me. So now these days I will only use it if its windy but even at that I still refuse to use it cuss of what had happened to me in the past. Its also a good idea to check the forecast for wind and temperature conditions. Well I hope that help out fishn bum, I cant wait to read up on your fishing reports. tight lines

I don't use an anchor either because of the wrap ups. For me, if it is too windy to stay in place with my fins, it it is too windy to be fishing from shore as well. However, there are lots of different tips here you can use.

One thing you can use for a cheap anchor is a small burlap sack or potato sack. When needed, put in enough rocks to hold your position. Tie the rope or cord to the sack. At the top, use a small float or bouy and a cheap carabiner type clip. Attach to the back handle of your tube. If you need a quick getaway just unhook the clip. You can come back to the bouy to hook back up or retrieve your anchor. It's lighter and takes up less room than an anchor. Also if it gets hung up and lost you aren't out much money.
