I'm new to the group but have a lot of knowledge with lobster hooping and with it starting in a few weeks...I thought I would say hi and let everyone know that if you have any questions- please feel free to ask. I have been hooping for a bunch of years and been through all of the trial and errors. I have what I believe is a foolproof method to making sure you have lobster for dinner, lunch, breakfast....all season long. Cheers!

I have only one regret on Lobster hooping, and that's that I didn't start earlier. Always here to help and look forward to hearing about your first hooping adventure. Hopefully it will be soon.

Yes, hooping from the tube. It's easy if you make a rack for the hoops out of PVC and get everything ready from shore before you leave. Then it's dropping the hoops and fishing while you let them soak a while. Pretty simple process if you're prepared with your gear. I use drain pipe PVC with drill holes and caps on the end for bait tanks- that way seals don't bother the hoops ( seals will check out the bait but can't get it). I freeze the bait the night before in the bait holders which also does a slow release of sent and makes the lobsters have to work at getting the bait in the hoop.

That sounds awesome. I've only done lobster fishing while scuba diving. Mainly Point Loma in 40-60 feet of water. Loved it! I assume you fish the bay and not the ocean, correct? I've read stories of those who get out there with a tube but I don't know how safe it is.

If you fish the SD area I'd like to join you to see how it's done. My buddies and I float tube 1-2 a week, mainly SD and MB, you're welcome to join us anytime. Smile

What can I share...that's a big question and really depends on what you're looking for- locations, bait, what time to go out...let me know. Also this Sunday the West Marine in Point Loma is having a clinic with Salazar whom is like a god at hooping. Info below-

Come join us for a FREE Promar Lobster & Crab Hooping Seminars presented by lobster guru and author Jimmy Salazar. Learn the ins & outs of hooping including advanced tactics & tips to help you on your way to lobster dinner!

I kinda got the bait thing figured out.

I got an idea as to where to set the hoops.

I am thinking about how to transport the hoops.

I am figuring two or three is about max.

I am also thinking about rub wear on the skin of the float tube.

You got any pics of a tube set up for buggin?

October 3 is right around the corner.

Thanks,
Manuel
