Newport 1-14-16

What's up everybody? I took my tube out yesterday morning out at Newport. I launched from the coast guard station at 9:30am and fished until 1pm. Went 2 for 5 on the spotties. Started off throwing a small swimbait and drop shot for a few short bites. After changing baits I got 1 in the swim jig and 1 in a crankbait. I also casted off a brand new arig on my first cast and got the worst backlash of my life. Thanks for reading!

So.... how you liking the A-Rig?

Sweet that looks so cool.. Have you ever tired to launch around the new port wedge I believe there is a water channel that separates the wedge form balboa island use to fish the rocks and way at the end of the jetty like 10 years ago .. Is there any spots that are off limits when it comes to the ocean and bay fishing..

It's my best yet lol... I tried picking it out for like 30 minutes but got frustrated and cut it out. Lost maybe a 1/4 of the braid but I'm back in action.[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Thanks man. Well this a-rig was destined to fail I guess. I have had success in the past using it in the bay. I tried it 2 other trips and got had opposite results. The first time I got 4 spotties on it and the second trip 0....

Thanks! I have never launched from the wedge. I have kicked over to the wedge from the coast guard station, to the bait barge and back. I guess you could launch there but it doesn't seem very user friendly like a sandy beach is. I know you can't fish north of the bridge at pch(marine reserve) or south of the corona del mar/crystal cove on the open ocean until you hit Dana point. You just have to be aware of what areas are mlpa marine life protected areas. I also know that if you catch garibaldi, the big red/orange fish it's illegal...

Thanks Tony!!! I'm trying to catch up to you....I'm still struggling on the drop shot....can't catch a fish on a fluke for the life of me....

LOL@catching up to me, haha i wish that was the case...

and soon enough bro....maybe try the smaller ones...they have the super salty and they have i think 3.5, seeing some from here catch 10 on the smaller fluke, gonna go get a couple bags and check them out.....hitting it wednesday...also might hit SARL this weekend, ill keep you posted...
