Planned on launching at 0530 hrs with singletrack at LAB but while driving down Ocean Blvd I saw them setting up a massive traffic control with street closures ... so I whipped a U-turn, text an abort message to singletrack and got out of that LB mess!

I finally launched at LAH at 0630 hrs.

Landed (23) fish and (6) different species today.

(1) Barracuda

(2) lizard fish best 13"

(14) Sand Bass best 15"

(4) Halibut best 16 3/4"

Thanx for taking the time to check out my session report.

23  fish and 14 Sandbass, what a great day.
Do the sandbass hit something different than the spotties?
I was getting used to seeing lots of the spots.

Thanks for sharing.

Hey Jerdon,

Most of the time I can pretty much tell what's on the end of the line but there are times that I get completely caught off guard and surprised that it's a Sandy on the end of my line.

A big Sandy with big shoulders can head shake like a large Hali and I've had a Sandy yank my stix down; into the water, to the third eye and ripping line. Again I get surprised!

But a Spotty with big shoulders .... there's not many fish strikes like it! ... they're mean and as ornery as an ol' grump!
This is the fish strike that keeps me coming back over and over again.

To your question Jerdon,
The 4lb-13oz LMB was rather easy to reel in and the (5) SMB; best being 17 1/2" and weighing 3-lbs, were all even easier to reel in.
I was a bit disappointed. But as we have all learned to realize by our experiences, that SW fishing isn't for everyone.

ha ha  Ha ha ha! And the pro's on TV "MLF"; on the Outdoor Channel, make there 1-lb to there occasional 3-lb LMB appear as beasts the way they fly them thru the air
during there bass tournaments ... but to me they were just kittens compared to their SW cousins. IMO

Thanx for asking Jerdon,

SP Dan     <"))><

I was waiting for Dan to Answear first. I completely agree. I grew up fishing for LMB I even caught a personal best of 9lb 8oz. Pretty much all spottie any size are some of the best fighting fish for there size. I fish mostly with bass gear and the spottie put bends in rods like no other fish.

WOW! A PB 9lbs 8oz LMB .... That's huge! WTG!

I've only fished; just this one time, for the SMB and the LMB and to land two NS and two PB's: 4lb 13oz LMB and a 3lb SMB on my first attempt ... well I really don't fell too bad my friend. Wink
I understand that the 17 1/2" SMB was also a very nice Bass per the BBL standards.

Their Bass do tend to run much smaller up there in the ridge tops compared to the FW lakes of the low lands, of let's say San Diego.
