Nice morning out filled with danger.
Sculpin can be a pain if your not ready, and how do you land an octopus?

Thanks for sharing.

Great question Jerdon,

Lol ... at first ... I thought it was a bundle of eel grass and debris that had built up on my bait.
I lifted the debris out of the water and onto my smooth plastic corrugated lap tray when I immediately recognized it to be an octopus.

I was also wondering "how will I remove the hook without hurting this magnificent lil' creature" ... and then the hook popped free on it's own ... a natural release. YES!!
It immediately slipped; over the end of my tray, and back into the water before I could get a photo .... darn!

My first thought was to cut my line. lol
I've never had to deal with this species before.

I just added this creature to my list of: seals lifting me out of the water, being stung by a Sculpin ... twice, a 25' whale beneath me in 15-ft of water, multi hook-ups with 250-lb Bat-rays, a 2.7-lb Lobster, a 30" 10-lb Halibut, a Searobin and now an Octopus with a beak.  Cool  WOW!!
What's next?? lol

Moral: I always try to stay alert, I always try to practice my safety, I always carry my air bladder inflation hose and I always try to prepare my self for the
unexpected by staying calm.
