Im a newbie to float tubing and just got a Cumberland that Ive taken out once so far. I was scouting out spots and found some really nice looking water with loads of sunken timber and a good amount of it sticking out. Is it wise to take my Cumberland into these type of areas? Is there a good chance of puncturing the tube if I hit a stick/stump? How would you navigate those types of water?

I think this is a tough call the waters might produce good fish but the risk of puncture is I feel high. I think the risk is pretty high and the joy of fishing these water would be overshadowed by the concern of sticking the tube. This is my 2 cents, I believe we need to think safety first and always when float tube fishing. I hope I did not bust your (TUBE) Smile with this answer but again this is just me. By the way welcome to the darkside.

Maybe some pics .
If you don't think it will puncture your waders or tear up your legs the tube should be fine. The important question is will you be able to swim out if the tube goes down?

I hope this helps

Hey Mudduck,

4 out of the 5 voices that I hear in my head say to .... "go for it!"
I'm assuming that you can always keep a certain distance between yourself and the hazardous debris. Is this correct?
Just keep your own safety as your [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] priority, invite a buddy, always wear your PFD and have on a safety whistle.

Exposed trees, submerged trees, rock piles and stumps all make for some really outstanding fish structures.
Why not plan a RECON mission to your new AO and really check it out ... of course, entering it with a certain degree of caution.
This could actually turn out to be a great "honey hole" for you ... and for a lot of your future FT sessions.

Just my 2-cents,  Thumbs Up
