Lake Perris
Area fished: Sail Cove

Air temp: 70 to 85
Water Temp. 75 to 77
Water Clarity: 5  feet and a bit green .
Depth: Shoreline to 40 feet deep
Time: 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM

8# SplitShot.......  Various Colors
12#  .............3/4 ounce Jigs
12#  Wackey .... Little George
12# Carolina .......... Manns Purple Jelly Worm 12"

I fished Sail Cove as there were no parking lots open on the east end. I zig zagged and switched up lures. I tossed the Carolina rig and it must have hit this fish in the head on the way down. I was waiting for the weight to hit bottom in 30 feet of water and noticed my line moving sideways, no current in the lake, so I set the hook and found this.

I ran into a fellow tuber that had some good tips/tweaks for me. He caught 5 bass in the same area and time frame.

Hey Jerdon,
It's good to see you back in the saddle (tube) again buddy!
Seriously ... THAT's a very nice TOAD of a fish sir!!

The same kind of thing also happens in the SW inner bays to me ... I will noticed that my line is moving sideways rapidly or has just stopped Shocked  on the drop with out hitting the bottom! ... and it takes a full moment for my brain to kick-in and realize ... HEY, THAT'S A FISH!!! lol!

Thanks for the great fish report with pic,

SP Dan     <"))><

Yes when the weight doesn't hit the bottom I seem to have a delayed reaction. Not the norm, so pay attention on the drop.

Perris is looking nice lately. There is room for almost 20 feet of verticle water still. I can say the island looks unreachable by tube these days. The boats and water lice are running full speed around the island again. But we can launch anywhere around the lake so plenty of spots to pick from.

A few years back, I met an older man (yes, even older than me if you can believe it!) who was wading at Sail Cove. He was catching one bass after another- nothing big, but about 2 pounds each. I slowly kicked my tube kind of close to him and ask if I could approach him. He said sure. I was sure he was using small live crawdads and ask him if that was what he was using. He laughed and showed me what he was using. He even showed me how to fish them. He caught 2 bass while I stood next to him!.. He told me that there are only 2 baits (lures) that he uses at Perris. I'll tell you one of them. It's the 4.5 inch curly tail Robo Worm in the Prism Shad color with a tiny sliding sinker rigged Texas style on 6 lb mono. I've used that worm and the other bait there and have done very well on them before I started to fish pretty much just for the giant Bluegill.
