Date - Fishing Time: 9/30/18 – 7:15 am – 11:00 am
Location / Launch Location: Los Alamitos Bay, Right Side of Mother’s Beach
Total Fish Caught: 5, 4 Spotted Bay Bass, 1 Mackerel
Bait Used (No of fish): DS – Mutsugorou (1), HUB - Chovy (2), HUB – Green Sardine (1)
Primary Goal: To test my tools, set up and experience bay fishing. Most of my gear is new for this, I wanted to see what I can tune, what works, what doesn’t, etc.
What Worked: My new reel was nothing short of amazing, KastKing Sharky II spooled with 25 lbs high vis yellow braid with a 12 lbs 24” Flourocarbon leader was super smooth. New float tube, hard top tray and rod holders all worked well.
What can be improved: I brought my waders and did not need them at all. Just got in the way. Also forgot and left the backpack straps under the tube so it felt like my leg was being nibbled on every now and again under the tube. Need to lighten up the amount of stuff carrying and also consider getting a waterproof backpack or sling to carry my stuff in.
Next Goal: Technique – Now that I have learned about my gear and set up a bit more and have more confidence in the water, my next goal is to improve my technique. I had several bites that I did not react to quick enough and I felt that my bait “action” was just not right. More Youtube please!
