Date  - Fishing Time: 10/6/18 – 7:15 am – 11:30 am

Location / Launch Location: Los Alamitos Bay, Left Side of Mother’s Beach

Total Fish Caught: 11 Spotted Bay Bass, mostly ranging from 8-10", 2 largest ones were about 13"

Bait Used (No of fish): DS – Dark Shad (1), HUB - Chovy (2), HUB – Green Sardine (5), HUB – Red Crab (3)

Primary Goal: Technique – How to fish for the bass, “jigging” motion, line speed, types of bait in different conditions, how fast to reel, etc… Have more confidence in the water.

What Worked: My new reel was great KastKing Assassin Baitcaster with Speed Demon Jerk Bait rod was incredible, so smooth and easy to use. Did not stop me from birdnesting the spools several times though. Need to tune my sensitivity and reaction time to bites

What can be improved: Figuring out where to fish in the conditions and practicing my casting.

Next Goal: More technique and sensitivity practice please! I had several bites that I did not react to quick enough and I felt that my bait “action” was just not right. Any suggestions are appreciated!

What a great morning on the water. New toys, fish on the boat, it doesn't get much better than that.

Thanks for sharing

I just got the same tube and used it for the first time yesterday as well! Small world. I was in Huntington Harbor across from you. We need to meet up!

I was working on a lot of the same jigging techniques. I got the most hits letting the bait (HUB redcrab) sink just before cement pillars. If I didn't get hit on the fall, a couple small up twitches followed by a pause worked well. I'll be back out this afternoon in HH and trying some more stuff. Great job and great post!

I find it really cool to read your reports as you develop your own levels of confidence on the water and as well as in your fishing technique skills!
You are truly going to be a force to be reckoned with on the water!

I look forward to the day that we will hook-it-up out there on the water as well Sir!

Thank you very much for sharing your LAB session with pic's!  Thumbs Up

PS ... How did you like fishing the smaller channel between the two bridges?
Were you able to make it all-the-way-up the channel to the 2nd Street Bridge?
Once you've figured out predicted wind directions ... this could be a very good channel to fish and be protected from certain winds. My 2-cents.

Hey for sure! I have video of all my adventures and how I am learning how to use the HUB baits. At the same time learning the Dark Sleepers. Gotta meet up for sure, I am going to try and go each week on Sat or Sun at the LAB until I get comfortable with tubing and am feeling like venturing out a bit. So much to learn...

Hey there Senpai,

I did like that part of the Bay but it had it's good and bad parts. This is where I went

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The good parts about it was that it was low traffic from boats, the wind did not affect me much (as you mentioned), the tide worked perfectly for me and the fishing was good? Hard to say since I have not really experienced what "good" is yet. I had an absolute blast though.

The bad parts about it is that on the Bay Shore side of the channel there was oil or something floating all around and was quite polluted. You can see it in the water here:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Another part of the learning process was also that on the E Sorrento Dr side of the channel, many of the pylons were not at the end of the docks but rather, in the middle and the docks looked to be floating on floats or black boxes. When I tried to go to where the pylons were I noticed that it was really shallow since many of the homes back right up to the dock. Caught a few just hanging out at the bottom but feel I had better luck when there were pylons to sink next to.

All part of learning the Bay I guess.
