Happy October everybody… Because of the advice that I learned here, over the summer… I built a 4 rod holder out of PVC and mounted it to my float tube as well as modified the POS mesh stripper into something functional, useful, and completely kick ass.

I’ve put everything away for the winter… But I’d sure love to get myself a winter project. I drive my wife crazy seeing PVC all over the living room all winter! LOL

I guess it's dependent on where you live but I need to learn how to get ready and catch trout next. I plan on furthering my education in the bays and harbors and go trout fishing in the local community parks and SARL in the upcoming months.

I am on Vancouver Island… West coast of British Columbia.

Sorry, I should have explained a little better. I’m really interested on what kind of modifications that I can still do to increase the “fun factor“.

I found one of the best ways to get information about where to go is right from Facebook. There are Facebook groups for Damn near everything now and people seem to be helpful.

What about a floating live well that can be useful. Also maybe adding some tackle strage ideas to your apron or off the rod rack. Just my 2 cents.

I've been pondering a DIY over the shoulder led spotlight on the end of a light weight flexible snake type mast; attached to my rod rack, in lieu of wearing a head lamp and also for better lighting as well for when I'm photographing my fish in the dark; for my FTFF reports, or for when I'm tying leaders and knots in the dark ... Hmmmmmm!

I also think the LED would assist me in allowing the approaching boaters; in the dark hours, a better opportunity to see me, allowing additional safety for myself while on the dark waters.

Has anyone else been thinking of doing something like this?
Please share if you have some DIY ideas!

I have some small experience with lights that may serve as food for thought. I rigged a 360 degree visible white led battery powered navigation light on a camera pole for night fishing. The same pole I use for my over the shoulder camera view, so just above head height. I discovered there is an interesting distinction between "navigation lights" vs. lights used for illumination. Navigation lights project the light out and away from the boat, which is good for being seen from a distance, but they provide almost no illumination for you to work by. I had the 360 navigation light on all the time, and while it did light up my immediate area a very small amount, it wasn't enough to be useful. When I needed to see what I was doing, I had to turn on my headlamp.

The idea will definitely work, you just need the right light on that pole. I tried to get away cheap with a little 50 lumen navigation light and that's why it didn't work.
