California Fishing License Now 356 days from date of purchase

That is right it has happened your California fishing License is now good for 356 days from date of purchase. It has been talked about for years now and it was finally done. I no this will help me as in the past I have had to wait till February or March to be able to purchase my license. Now If I have to wait I will not lose those months.
The other thing added to this is now we can carry a digital copy on our Cellphones as proof our license. Still waiting to see if there will be an increase for 2022 but I think this is a positive for use and recreationally fishermen.
In reading an article however I noticed something odd. Since the 80's fishing license sales were down 55%. Could this be the fix that could start to fix this issue which will bring more revenue to the DFG and our water ways.

About time! Its like that where I come from and shouldve been that way here too. I dont pay much for my annual though thank god

Sorry to bump an old thread, but as a guy who is just getting back into fishing I have a question about this. I purchased my license in mid-July, and at the top it says it expires on 12/31/22. Does the "One Year From Date of Purchase" thing no longer apply?

California annual fishing licenses expire Dec. 31 every year. It doesn't matter when you buy them. Bummer I know.

Thanks, Im just wondering what happened in less than the course of one year to go from being good 365 Days from the Date of Purchase, to expiring on Dec. 31?

I have been buying one every year, and to the best of my knowledge, in California I have always had to renew it in January. I could be wrong though. Because I always buy them in Jan. I know to renew then then. If something changed in regards to duration I wasn't aware of it.

It looks like it will go into effect in 2023. This was passed recently less then 2 years ago. I hope it goes through only time will tell.

I called my local tackle shop today and they said that the license; no matter when you will buy it, will expire at midnight on December 31.

I think that someone jumped-the-gun on this thread.

First paragraph:

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) will begin selling 365-day fishing licenses far sooner than expected, thanks to extensive efforts by staff to expedite sales. Beginning November 15, 2022, California anglers will be able to purchase a 2023 fishing license that will take effect on January 1, 2023, and last the entire year. All licenses purchased on or after January 1, 2023, will be effective from the date of purchase for a continuous 365 days.
