I've been looking for some type of rod holders to keep my rods out of my truck and out of the truck bed. During my search, I ran into this video of this impressive rod mounting system.

Cool post, what a great idea! But I always keep my rods in my truck, don't want them to get to cold in the early mornings. Haha

Hey that is cool, I need that that looked like me driving to the L.A.B last Sunday. Maybe SUMO could be the next sponsor of our site geek

Hey guys,
This is a great mount system. There has been a few similar system that I and my friends used many years ago based on a magnet instead of suction fastening system. The only problems we encountered was the incredible beating the rod tips took at higher speeds. So we would but socks on the tips if we were going to travel far at any speed. Also we got stopped by the CHP one day and was told by the officer that we could not have the rods crossing the windshield as it obstructed the drivers clear field of view. That was the last time we used them.

I usually keep my rods in the cab of my truck. I don't really like my rod loose in the bed. And when I'm in the sierras, i'm fishing with guys that like to drink so having my rods in the bed with an ice chest full of beer is stressing. I'm really looking for a bed mount, but can't find a decent one, so this type of mount might be my only option.

Flyfishingfool, how about buying a 3-4" PVC pipe to put your rods in for storage and reels can go in the cab with you.

boy I really feel bad for my rods. you guys take such good care of them and I threat mine like a little red headed stepchild lol. I just throw them into my work van and off i go. Alot of times they stay in there days, weeks and even months. I think I need to mount a rod rack inside of my van give my rods some love lol!

Wow that's a great idea and my hat is off to the marketing guy they are using. I mean who would have thought "put a pair of racks on a rally car" and film it is just genius and is really impressive in case your doing some fishing after a race.

That would work great for me on top of the SUV's and keep's my rod's from crapping my head liner.

Damn that sucks.

Have a storage tube and use it for traveling.

But when I'm out camping/fishing I like to leave my rod setup and ready to go. It suck having to break down and setup again when visiting multiple lakes throughout the day.

Actually, there are a couple of variations on this in the fly fishing world.

One variation goes into the inside roof of an SUV or a truck cap.

I would not ride on the highway with the one pictured, but use it going from point to point on a river.

I had the one that goes inside your car along the roof, all I can say is dont buy it.

Im not a fly guy. But I keep my reels covered and lay them in the bed of my truck. I have thought of other methods to secure my rods especially for longer treks. My concern is road rashing my gear. Now I know laying in the bed of the truck is going to cause some rash too. I really favor the "tube" method to some degree. I also consider the anti theft angle to vehicle rod storage and transportation. Simply put, I would like to stash my rods and be able to walk into a burger joint and not be super worried about the rods. There is always a risk but I think you guys know what I mean.

I like this and other systems I have seen for that "spot to spot" jaunt. I would like something more concealed and long distance friendly.

Just my .02 Very Happy

Not sure if its the same maker but I heard of some guy in the Eastern Sierra driving on 395 in high wind who had his rods ripped off and smashed in the highway.

Man that would suck! Wondering if the company would warranty something like that?
