January 9th Mission Bay High tide: 0832 (6.6 ft) Time fished: 1130-1300

Today was all about finding some spots....kicking around looking for eel grass and checking out some spots I've seen from shore buy never fished because I didn't have a tube at the time. Threw the T&C xmas oil around working it through the eel grass. Landed 5 lizard fish in one area and kicked to another spot. I find a nice stretch of eel grass and a nice drop off.....

I work this stretch for a few minutes and then I get absolutely nailed! Work the fish out of the eel grass and I'm rewarded with a nice spotty with a face full of grass. The fish measured at what appears to be 19 inches...hard to tell though because my hand was in it's mouth so I couldnt tell after where his mouth was on the tape. I also got it all on my GoPro...that should be a cool video and hopefully ill see a good measurement.

This is a pic of my camera lol...ill post the better one later.

congrats on your PB. from the pix, it looks like 18" but either way congrats and what is 1" anyways.
question, do you have fish finder or is mission bay that clear and shallow you can see the bottom
cant wait for the video.

Yea the more i look at it 18" seems right...ive landed 3 before that were all 16 so it was cool to land this guy. I dont have a fish finder and usually just look for the eel grass with polarized sunglasses...lookin for the dark patches. I caught this guh in like 6 feet of water...i had to kick back right iver him to pull him out and could see him burried in the grass right below me....i wont be able to see the video for a few days but it would be sick if i can see him on the footage as well with a face full of grass. That would be a sick video.

I wore it on my head today...i was in a rush to get on the water today so i didnt bring my newly built pole mount. That would have made the video even better but with the risk of losing the fish i think i would have netted him first without worrying about getting footage with the pole mount.

He bent the hook too...im not buying them anymore (owner ultra point....the hook is weedless with the lead part of the hook...like a texas rig with a pegged weight)

wow, bent owner worm hook. I have never had that happen. I have bent several hooks on cheaper lead head but never any owner hook.

How long of a battery life do you get with a GoPro.

Yea i caught 3 small spotties tonight and noticed the hook was bent a bit too...maybe it has to do with me using braid and setting the hook like a psycho....ive never had problemswith owner hooks until now.

Its hard to tell cause im constantly turning the camera off and on (to save batteey life). I think the battery is rated for 2-2.5 hours plus i have an extra battery i bring with me. They have a "battery bacpac" that plugs into the back of the camera and extends life by 2x.

Nice spottie!

I used my Go Pro today and the battery died with 4gb left on a 16gb class-10 sd card
I was starting and stopping the recording but left the camera on standby after stopping the recording.

I think that the battery backpack is better than a spare battery as long as you don't plan on getting the LCD screen that plugs into the same spot.

When you remove the battery from the camera, you will lose the time and date setting

Yea im always taking the batterh out and its annoying to lose the time and date of certain things. So the battery lasted you for 12gb of recording? Am i wrong or is that a long ass time. I read somewhere that whether you are recording or not the camera wastes the same amount of battery. For this reason ive started to use the feature where it records as soon as you turn it on. Before id have it on stanby mode and just hit the record button when i wanted to recore.

This go pro camera is new to me
I was recording constantly to capture the bite and swing so there's a lot of useless footage.
The turn on and record feature sounds like a good idea if the camera in fact does use the same amount of battery whether recording or not.
I'll try that next time. Thanks!

I'm going to look into getting a neutral density filter.
This camera's white balance seems to be off.
The footage seems way too warm (golden colored)

Yea i have the golden color issue too but kinda like it for some reason. Now i try to make lots of short clips instead of really long ones...it sucks goin throug long ass videos trying to find a 1 minute clip

For editing purposes, short clips are easier to deal with Thumbs Up

I don't care for the golden color
I want it to look natural
...like the way everything looks fisheye curvy. lol

Cool man...ive never used the nite glow before but razor clam and ghost shrimp are some of my favorite colors....extremely deadly on the spotties. Good luck...if yoh have any T&C questions or saltwater questions feel free to ask...id be glad to help man.

Id go with a medium heavy. Both of mine are heavy...but they are universal rods I use for many different things : fresh/salt, swimbaits, cranks, etc.

The only thing i change up are the reels depending on what type of fishing im doing.
