There are two real hot spot for catching these in NP. The guys from the 100# plus clubs are usually there trying to out do their last big ringers. These are a blast on a tube. Anyone relate? Way back in an older thread LC has a picture posted of an at least 80# plus up on the dock that he landed. I haven't caught one that big yet but I am always game to try.

Good fun right there yep.

I used to fish for them back in the day at NP as well. The biggest I have landed is around 80lb or so. I am guess. I know there are some big bats in there. I have been spooled on 4/0 60lbs

That's awesome! I heard the way to estimate the weight is by the size of the disk. The disk is the main body with out the wings and tail. They say a 12" disk is about a 25# fish. So there's a guideline of sorts. Yeah, you get spooled a lot when you target these guys. I catch them a lot in the surf too. Always fun.

And they do have a stinger...

Cool vid, I caught a shovel nose about that size from the surf on a crank bait. Took me forever to fight that thing in.

So when we all going mudmarlin fishing? from a tube... at night... with no headlamps.

Went completely airborne 45 seconds in! Shocked

Dont think I am quite crazy enough yet to take a sleigh ride behind one of those monsters in a tube!!!!
15' rod Shimano Baitrunner 12000D with 50lb power pro and a 45lb mono topshot. Only took ten minutes even then. Cool
Helluva fight!

Nice, you fishing in the bay or surf. These slow cold nights is making me wanting to hit the bay to do little bat fishing myself. It's been too long

Quite an aceivement to bend a 15' rod almost back down to the reel even if it was an Uglystik
