Decided to hit newport harbor instead of my usual spot. I've tubed newport before with little success. My brother and I were determined to find the fish today. Launched at 7am to some very low tide conditions making us look for fish in deeper water near the achored boats but after about 2 hours of nothing we decided to work the docks hard! The tide was real low still and it made for an even difficult time finding these fish.

All the spots that looked like they were good spots were completely dry! We did what we could and covered alot of ground (about 1 mile of docks) and finally managed to sratch up a few. Mainly wanted to break in some new rods I wrapped for my brother and I.

Here are the pics.

Hey guys,
Nicely done, and some beautiful gear.
Coupla questions,... So the tide was low, and you started outside, and then went in. What did you do differently, and what do you think put you on the bite?

The bite was slow outside and near the docks, but persistence paid off and found us some skunk busters. The bite was never on managed to find 4 fish and that was it! Still had a blast even though the tide was way low. Saw two other tubers out there and said they only caught one spottie.

Way to keep hunting to find some biters
I believe that the cold water has the fish in lock-jaw mode
The higher into the 60's, the better fishing should be

I like the finish work with the x-wrap. Very clean looking Thumbs Up
Have you been using that type of spinning reel seat for a while?
I hear it is much more comfortable than a standard seat

That is not a custom rod that I built. It's a BPS Carbonlight rod. The casting rod is the rod I wrapped.
