Mine is to just fish more, been so busy lately, but am now getting the shakes to just fish ha ha.
Also, maybe I can help as can possibly others to help you reach your goals in 2013:
miller: for the 10 lb Calico: I would suggest you fish just off of the rocks to the south of NPH with a Hopkins Shorty ¾ oz. hammered silver spoon, single hook, with a 5” single curly tail grub in either chartreuse, green or red, with silver flake.
MASSFisher: for the Sheepshead: same place as I suggested to miller above, but using a 3” single curly tail grub in watermelon with silver flake on a ⅛ oz. jighead. The ⅛ jighead is light, but that’s the point, it falls slowly and enticingly to the rocks below, of course, if you fish with a moving tide, you could upgrade to a ¼ oz. but I wouldn’t go any heavier.
Carp: Corn is probably the best bait, but I have caught some monster carp on a homemade doughball, which consists of flour, water and strawberry Jello, then boiled so it doesn’t fall off of the single hook and there are BIG Carp at Yorba Linda Regional Park (talk to the Fish and Game people there, they know, they are there every day).
Dave2375: 9lb Sand Bass: Long Beach Breakwater at night, Tackle Havens 5” Scamp in Hot Pink w/Silver Flake and their Fuchsia 5” Breathing Fiber skirt, tipped with a strip of squid, or my post above for miller for the 10 lb. Calico, with the exception of the grub color, I’d use Chartreuse or Chartreuse or Chartreuse with Silver Flake get the picture? ha ha
n2deepfsw: see my post above for the wall, I would also suggest when fishing the wall, during the day, bright colored grubs, chartreuse, lime green and orange, but at night, the hot pinks and the blacks seem to work best on the calicos there but you gotta have a Breathing Skirt (to bulk up the bait) and all tipped with a strip of squid.
ChompOnThis: For the Halibut, 2 recommendations: 1) chartreuse or white single curly tail grubs fished on ¼ oz. jigheads in NPH and 2) and I really hate giving this up, but… it’s a new year and I’ve already posted it here, so let’s do it again…Bomber Model A Deep Diver, colors: G-Fleck Bengal Fire Tiger (my personal favorite), Chrome/Black Back/White Belly, Metachrome/Black Back and Silver Flash (you want the 3", 5/8 oz. model that dives 10-13 ft.) You will hook a LOT of halibut this way!
Big Bat Rays: without a shadow of a doubt, white single curly tail grubs are the ticket, big ones? What do you consider big? Me, personally, I’d fish LBH!
LMB on a topwater, best bait for me has been 2 baits: a clear topwater popper bait or Tackle Havens 3½” Bull Frog in Clear w/Sea Green Flake, Anise Flavor
bballnono: see above
NOTE: Swimbaits for LMB: no question here, been there, done that. Tackle Havens 5" Swimbait in Bass Glitter Color. I have actually seen a 5 lb. LMB inhale a 2 lb. LMB at my feet at Clark Park in Fullerton. I sent samples of those Swimbaits to my buddy in GA and his only comment besides why didn't I send more was that he was glad he had super glue with him because of all the LMB he caught.
Hope this helps and Happy New Year!!
