112v battery help Empty 12v battery help Sat Mar 16, 2013 10:21 am

It's been 10 years, and I'm finally going to pull the old float tube out of the garage and hit some local ponds for some bass. I'm going to redo by fish finder and pole holder manifold, based off of some great ideas I've come across on this very site.

I was running 2 6v lantern batteries for the fish finder (Hummingbird 100SX), but due to the 1/2 mile walk I will be doing, I'm needing to shed some weight off the rig. I ran across a 12V 1.2AH 15W Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) Battery online for a good price, but would it be enough to run the fish finder?

Thanks in advance for any advice, and will be posting pics once I'm done.

Most finders at that entry level don't need more than the typical 12v with 1A continuous output. Mine is the Hummingbird 718, and I used to run the super heavy 12v 14AHr that was heavy enough to sink the Titanic. I got the ultra light 14.8V 8AHr with charger for the same price, but 1/20th of the weight. Perfect for two days on the water with 5hrs of charging.

I run a 12v 5ah for garmen and it's good for a week. It weights maybe 3-4lbs and IMO that's not very much.

There's alot option out there. Guys are running 8aa, lipos etc.

Running 10 AA rechargeable Sony enelopes in on a Garmin 100 which lasts a couple of days, weighs next to nothing as well.

Thanks for all the input. Decided on running 8 AA's. Got my ABS pipe and fittings, and will start the assembly this weekend.
