Hello gentlemen,
I'm a newbe from NY was searching for a decent tube and accessories online and search returned with this forum, great community, so without thinking too much about it I decided to join. It will be my first tube, I already know the model, but two other things I don't seem to get my priorities straight on are the fins that will be right for this sort of activity and the pump. I need this pump to work on 12V cigarette lighter and need it to be strong enough to pump the tube without topping it off. Anyways, I had great time just by reading through the posts, got a lot of useful info already, but if you have any advice for me regarding those two items it'll be greatly appreciated.

Air mattress pump, $10 or $15 at Walmart. OR, just have a hand double action pump. Just in case there's no 12V lighter port to use.

Force fins are great, if you have the cash to spare. If not, and on budget, if you're using using wader, like to be bare, US Divers Flex Pro II, adjustable version if you can. There are various fins, but I've been using mine for over 6 years. Two pairs to switch off from waders during cold days to bare feet during summer.

Welcome to the boards. A double action pump gets the job done and I prefer hot spot fins. Don't forget to post reports from your area!

Thank you all for your input. How long does it take to fill the tube completely with the hand pump?

I have a Cumberland which has two air bladders and it doesn't take long at all. I've never actually timed it but it's pretty quick. I keep mine 100% deflated due to storage issues. If you were to keep yours partially inflated then it'll make it even quicker since you'll just have to top it off. Never leave it 100% full all the time since it might pop during transportation or storage due to the air inside expanding.

Thanks Lolly, I plan to purchase the same tube and will also keep it fully deflated due to lack of storage. Which brings me to another feature that I need my pump to have: inflate/deflate option.

Welcome aboard. You'll love the Cumberland! I use a battery operated hand held pump and keep in on the tube is a ziplock bag.

With the Cumberland you don't need a pump that deflates. The Boston valves let the air out fast.

cool, I just ordered heavy duty double action hand pump.

If you are close to your car, the cig lighter type is the way to go. I don't like to work up a sweat before I get on the water.  Those pumps also come D-cell powered.

For topping off or in case of a leak on the water, I carry 3' of clear plastic tubing with 3/4 " OD. Fits snugly into the boston valve. You can get it at Home Depot.

Make sure you deflate partially as soon as you come out of the water. Heat increases pressure very quickly.

As far as the time required to fill the tube with a hand pump, it's very minimal.  I used to leave my tube 80% filled and it would only take about 4-5 pumps on each side to get it to 95%. (I bought my pump at Walmart for around $10)  Now, I have to almost completely deflate it so I can fit two tubes in my truck.  It's about 50 yards from where I park my truck to where my son and I launched our tubes last night.  I had both tubes completely pumped up in the time it took my son to take the rods to the lake and get back up to the truck.  He does walk slow, but that's expected from today's 16 y/o...lol

Thanks for the tip. This is better than trying to keep the battery powered pump dry. Plus it's a pain to twist around to get to the valves. 

thanks for all the input gents. apparently those cumberlands are in high demand, since supplier emailed me that he can't ship it until they become available only at the end of this week (I hope). And even worst with those heavy duty pumps. they are not available till the end of next week. I find it strange... But, I must say, I'm really enjoying reading through the topics on this forum in the mean time.
