Mom was out of town for the weekend so we got to do a little fishing. We got out around 1:00 and it was super windy. We could barely move against the wind. We decided to stick to the bait barge and fish there, but Dad decided to fish around the docks. We got a bunch of small white croaker and a few nice yellowfin croaker and even a stingray next to the bait barge. Dad caught a 14 1/4" spotty and we kept it to eat for dinner. Also, this was the first time we got my sister out to fish. She thinks fishing is weird or something like that so she doesn't usually come. Anyways, it was awesome to get out again, and we can't wait till school gets out so we can go more often!

They caught it, it's legal, they have every right to keep it for a meal. Leave it at that.

Good going on working around the wind. I was tempted to drive down there, but the winds told me otherwise.

there is nothing wrong with keeping a fish if it is legal , but as anywhere If I catch a fish and keep it , make sure you balance it out with some Good Green leafy foods .. we never know whats in our waters and in the fish

Yeah, we shared it with Grandma and Grandpa. Our Grandpa ate a lot of it and said it was really good, but he says everything tastes really good because I think his tastebuds all retired like 20 years ago.

Not playing hate. Just educate yourself. The harbors / marinas and its fish are polluted. Fuel, Human waste, PCB's, Mercury, Pesticides, Street run off are a few things to think about. I am sorry for saying you should not eat that. I have no right to tell you what to put in your mouth. Its your choice. Bon Appetit.

I've eaten plenty and I mean plenty of fish from the harbor, and I have never gotten sick ever, Ive been eating them since I've started fishing ( all legals) just saying i don't think they do any harm to you. now if its legal and it looks really gross like worms growing then yes.

Pdawg, that's what I thought you were getting at.
I know that they have plenty of warnings in that area (Dana / Doheny) about run offs, polution, and spills, thought you might be privy to some info we didn't.

I think as long as it does not look like there is anything wrong with it and you only have it like once a week at most I think you should be fine. Hey gettinsalty, post up a report about saturday morning.

I agree with everyone here, it was legal and if they are not going to waste it great. But I also agree the harbor water is not where I want to eat from. If it is a little bit at a time maybe it is not so bad but for me I put it back for more than one reason. Besides all this nice work and great job on getting your sister out there. Good work keep it up buddy.

I'm sorry I came off defensive.  Embarassed good info to keep in mind since we all fish harbors mainly. But seriously...nothing beats the fresh fish you've put on the table to share with others. Sometimes, it's worth throwing caution in the wind to share some great moments with loved ones.
