Any of my Cali folks hear about this, or know of any specifics? I have noticed a lot of anti-fisherman stuff on the web in regards to this, but I am getting different stories?

I guess the concern is that people believe that the angler "wrangled" the shark closer to folks so it would attack people, while the article is stating that it was actually trapped in a net when it attacked, and not on line tackle.

What do yeah all think?

There have been many Great White sightings at that pier in the last few years, I have this pic from news reports from last January at Manhatten Pier.

I can't tell from the video if they knew what kind of shark it was, but it is hard to tell what is on the line till the shark is closer. Many of the news channels certainly don't portray fisherman in a good light. The fisherman was reported to be interviewed and not cited for doing anything wrong at the scene.

I lived in Manhatten Beach 6yrs ago and was out on the pier a lot and Yes I saw sharks swimming , what kind where they ? it was hard to say , but no one worried about them then , they are just doing there own thing . While i was only out there a few yrs I did see juvy white sharks hooked here and there most people would just cut there line and that was that .

Now with this incident the angler that had the shark hooked on the pier I can see why the shark may have been a little aggressive and it just happened that a swimmer did not know what was going on and was in the wrong spot at the wrong time . he was fortunate that this did not end worse like getting wrapped in the line or something .

It's all over FB but what's bad about all this is that there is a video of the guys fishing and had the shared hooked up and they were laughing the whole fucking time as the shark was swimming to words swimmers and surfers into they realized the shark bite someone. It's the ocean and anything can happen. Wrong place at the wrong time type of thing but IMO they shouldn't have been out there shark fishing on a holiday weekend.
There are small 8-9ft great whites swimming all a long our beachs every day

No I remember a few shark attacks at Manhattan prior to moving in '06.

I looked into it a little more and the article that brings up a "net" as the culprit is false. So in the end it was the angler and it was on line tackle. The big mystery is if this guy is as much of a jerk as the media is making him look. In the video they clearly become distressed when they realize someone is getting attacked. The web and media are spreading it as "they made the shark go attack that man", which is ludicrous. To say you can just whip around a nine foot shark is absurd.

That is a great point as well, why target sharks on such a busy holiday...
