with a side of greenbacks
Who knew a guy would need mosquito repellent in February....in San Diego???? Those thing were out of control BEEEEEEEE ROOOOOOOO TULLLLLLLLLLLL!
Fished Lower Otay with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and his buddy yesterday morning for a couple of hours. We got absolutely tore up by the skeeters until I found some bug repellent in my truck. I'm pretty sure I could have used a pint or so of fresh blood!
As for the fishing, I lost a pretty decent fish on the first cast using a crayfish colored crank bait. Then it was nothing for about an hour or so. Finally dumb luck struck as I was mixing up a protein shake. I had a DS MM III out but had the rod laying beside me. Luckily, as usual, I tucked the handle of my reel under the mesh on my stripping apron. Otherwise, my Stradic FJ and favorite Lamiglass rod would have been in the drink because I got hammered by a nice little chunky greenback! Redshirt apparently pulled his camera out when it happened and got some pretty cool action shots (thanks Joe!)
That fish broke the seal and we started getting fish here and there but only on the DS (4" MM III and 7" green pumpkin orange flake trick worm for me). I couldn't get another bite on a reaction bait.
It got windy after a couple of hours and the combination of the cold wind and sitting in the 63° water took it's toll a little sooner than normal on me and I had to head home. I ended up with 4 healthy fish.
