Tony,
I am personally using Daiwa Space Age Reel Greaser , not bad on price $3 and it last a awhile for greasing and cleaning many of reels .

I know others who like the Shimano Reel Grease , it is like $6 , but they give you a ton . so it would proubly outlast us lol!

I too use the daiwa stuff. It's good since it's easy to apply. I know some folks who use that yamaha marine grease with good results too. The most important part is to make sure you don't overdo it. A light coat goes a long way.

BTW, DO NOT use WD 40 on Shimano reels. My small Sedona reel starting spitting out rubber one day, bits and pieces. Talked to a Shimano rep, they use a virgin rubber, WD 40 eats it up......beware........GT

So many choices out there. I have always used white lithium grease. It's easy to use, safe on any kind of metal and long lasting; it doesn't splatter, melt, run, wash off or freeze. You can get in practically any hardware store/dept.

Sewing machine oil is tops for use on reels. Or you can use never heated vegetable oil in a pinch. But never use WD40 on anything that is/has rubber or plastic.

You can get both of these at Walmart. The smallest size will provide you with enough for a lifetime supply for reel maintenance.

As cleaning goes...you should avoid chemicals! Most of them will damage plastic and rubber. If using your reel in salt water it is a good idea to flush with water, let it dry and then apply lubricants. If it needs a better cleaning than a flush I use a small amount of Dawn dishwashing liquid and water. Dawn will remove the old lubricant without damaging plastic, rubber or monofilament.

Keep your lines tight and the hooks sharp.

I use cal's for my drags
Yamaha marine grease for other parts
Boca Lightning oil for my spool bearings
Reel X for any other parts that need oil. worm gear, reel handle etc

I forgot to mention that I clean off the old grease and dirty bearings with Coleman fuel. It's never damaged anything in my reels.
