We all know that bass love to suck up a falling bait and so I decided to try some of the small 1/16 oz. HookUp Baits.
Because my main line is braid, which floats, the lightweight bait falls very slowly, especially if you've made a long cast and therefor it's dragging a lot of line.
The HookUp Baits tag line is "Don't Blink on the Sink" and I have to say that this trip proved that to be true. By far, most hits came on the drop.
I was still a little tired from my big day at Grissom the day before, so I just made a quick trip and launched at Mother's Beach in Los Alamitos for a four hour session. The tide was going out when I got in the water, so I let it push me into the channel under the bridge there and did a little circuit of those docks.
I ended up with 24 fish. All spotties except for a couple of barred sand bass and one Yellow Fin Croaker. Even though most were small, they're good fun on light tackle and any time you can average a fish every ten minutes, you're having fun!
So I recommend you try some smaller baits for big fun!
