We all know that bass love to suck up a falling bait and so I decided to try some of the small 1/16 oz. HookUp Baits.

Because my main line is braid, which floats, the lightweight bait falls very slowly, especially if you've made a long cast and therefor it's dragging a lot of line.

The HookUp Baits tag line is "Don't Blink on the Sink" and I have to say that this trip proved that to be true. By far, most hits came on the drop.

I was still a little tired from my big day at Grissom the day before, so I just made a quick trip and launched at Mother's Beach in Los Alamitos for a four hour session. The tide was going out when I got in the water, so I let it push me into the channel under the bridge there and did a little circuit of those docks.

I ended up with 24 fish. All spotties except for a couple of barred sand bass and one Yellow Fin Croaker. Even though most were small, they're good fun on light tackle and any time you can average a fish every ten minutes, you're having fun!

So I recommend you try some smaller baits for big fun!

A 24 fish day is always fun!
I love it when I toss to an area I suspect is going to work and it does.

Nice! Been wanting to take my GF's 11 year old out for his first Tube fishing experiences. The bay is the best place to start.
I usually launch out at the end of the peninsula. It's been awhile since I've been there so Im not sure how the parking is any longer. Used to be able to park on the street all day.

How was the water temp? Warm enough to not need waders?
I need to get him some Youth waders but they are hard to come by used. I don't want to pay for a new set that he'll out grow by next year.

Thanks, guys!

So much fun! Get's your hunting instincts going!

The water is warm 70+ degrees - no waders needed.

It's free to park on the street any time. The street in front of Mother's Beach always has easy parking early in the morning and you can set up on the grass. Down on the peninsula you may have a little tougher of a time finding a parking spot, but I always do, so wherever you go, it will be fine.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the reply!
Good to know about the warm water. I don't want to invest in kids waders if we're not sure he'll like it or not.

I usually launch out early, I try to catch the incoming tide.
Good to know that they haven't added time limits for the peninsula.
Thanks again.
