A-Bay On the Fly 07/08/2019

Fished A-Bay on the fly via 69th place launch today.

Got a late start because I get off work at 0700 in the morning.

Was going to go straight from work, but on my way to the AO I decided to stop by home first, and enjoy a cup of coffee with my wife.  Glad I did, because she wanted to go hang out on the beach in the bay and read a book while I pretended to be a fisherman.

Was in the drink by 0930, and got out 1330

Good conditions:

SW Winds around 5 to 7 knots.
Overcast giving way to partly cloudy skies.
Air temp 72, water 69 to 70.
Water relatively clean green with some cloudiness over by Ballast point.  Very little trash, a bit of eel grass floating around.
Dolphins and terns working inside the bay!

Fished with my 8WT integrated shooting head rig with a leader tapered from 40 to 20 to 10 pound.  10 pound was fluorocarbon.

Only used two flies today.  Both were Clouser deep minnows.  1/0 chartreuse over white did not produce, but the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] olive over chartreuse got top honors.

Fished around ABYC and the docks over by Ballast Point

Fish total:  9

5 short calicos
3 spotties (with one going 13")
1 sand bass (going 13")

Fun day.  It always makes me laugh how hard those little spotties hit the fly!

Thats awesome. Man that olive and white clouser kills in the LAB. One day lets fish together I have a clouser with a spinner blade on it that I've been icthing to throw. I use to like using the tapered leader but since Im using a type 6 sink tip i just use 3 to 6 feet of 12 pound flouro. Tight lines and keep up the good work.
