UPPER MICHIGAN TRIP
June 3-6, 2021
Yet another Sylvania Wilderness float tube trip is in the books. After 25 years it never gets old. My fishing partner and I began our trip by fishing one of our usual “go to” lakes. We caught a mixed bag of largemouth and smallmouth bass between 12-17 inches along with a few monster gills. That evening we hit the local Brew Pub in Land O’ Lakes for a well earned burger and a beverage.
The next day we would continue to try some of our old stopping grounds and continued to catch a good amount of bass although the heat of the day, clear water and high skies would made it a bit difficult. We managed decent numbers and caught a few smallmouth in the 17-20” range.
On our last day we decided to try a lake we had never tried before but got a hot tip that smallies were very active. We packed up the tubes and hiked in ¾ of a mile thru the woods to the lake. It took us a little time but we found a rock/gravel bar and it was on. After a few hours our arms were tired and our thumbs were raw from the 17-21” bronze backs that could not resist the 4” Zoom Super Fluke on a c-rig. We’ll be going back later this summer for round two for sure as well as another burger!!
