I've been testing a bunch of different float tubes in the past few months to satisfy my curiosity. (2021 is the year when I test tubes...
All of them, I have passed on or will pass on to new owners, not because any are not good but because I don't intend to keep any long-term until I test more units to educate myself.
The XPW 240 is the latest one that I picked up off JeffCPR's recent post from a dealer. I have long wanted to try out a platform float and was thrilled to find this. I did a test during a very windy day and indeed, it does not get blown around like a regular tube because of its low profile. I am quite impressed at how stable this is, how one is low on the water for maximum thrust when kicking, and yet is sitting above the water line. I understand why they build platforms like this. I also put a trolling motor on it and it worked beautifully.
I can see how one can easily stand up on this platform to do sight fishing if one mounts a standing bar on it - it is that large and stable. Yet, surprisingly quick and agile.
Now it is available for any who may be interested at $549. It's a great unit at this price but since I picked it up at this price, passing it on at the same. Not if there's another hybrid float tube that offers this value.
