? Fishing Journals who keeps them?

That is the question how here keeps a fishing journal.  Also if you do what do you feel is the most important information that you keep in your journal other that the fish you catch.  Just curios.

Anyone see this and have you heard about it. A reprint of and old very old Fishing Journal. For me it in the book I was reading "At the grave of the unknown Fisherman".

I had not heard of the Fishing Diary. But to answer the question I do keep a spread sheet of each fishing trip. I like to know the weather conditions and water temps.

Some things I track.
Location Date Time In Time Out Moon Barometer Weather Condition Weather Temp Water Temp Water Clarity Depth Fished Notes :

Thanks Jerdon this is kind of what I am looking for. I would like to keep this all online for quick easy access for sure.

OK here we go I have created a quick Google Doc for next years Fishing Log I can print it our just fill it out online after each outing.  I can also add all details to Google Sheets and great charts of information to see what worked best.  Now I just need to be honest on my log LOL, that is the challenge.

I think the only thing you are missing is moon phase.

I used to keep a journal...then i got lazy. kept it for a few months at most, but learned a lot from it. Mind you, this is for striper fishing up north. People thought I had too much time on my hands until they realized I was onto something...soon after that realization...they began pestering me for my records...

Good to know it worked for you. So I have been retooling it for most the day and I did add a Moon Phase Chart to it.

Ok so I think I am going to bind this for myself. I may make a few different versions.

I have kept a daily log of every session since the beginning of 2011.
I have formatted-it for the information I want kept over the next couple of years.

Yes, I have logged every trip in detail since 1988. I record the following:
Date
Location w/ details
Time
Moon Phase
Barometer trend
Weather (sky, precipitation, wind, temp)
Water Conditions (level, clarity, temp, flow rate)
Fish Caught, size range, lures/flies used
And a freeform section for adding notes

It's my own Excel creation and prints out 3 reports/page.

Right on thanks for sharing I have been trying to keep mine filled in after each trip. It is a struggle but I am working on it.

Keep at it and it will pay dividends. It takes a while (years) to build up a useable data base, but it will make you a better angler. Plus its fun down the road to relive some of the memories. I think my fishing buddies enjoy reading it more than I do with several, "I remember that trip!" moments.

I understand that it's a drag to keep it going, but known this... down the road the bad trips logged will be the ones you learn the most from... mysteries solved... poor conditions identified. The good trips are easy to write about, but provide little in the way of learning/improving.

Well stated I think I will move over to a Google Sheet setup. Basically Excel Files that should work well.
