Hey guys,
this is a typical course (or coarse) fishing rig that is very popular in Europe for fishing ponds and very slow rivers for coarse fish such as carp, tench, perch, and the like. With the advent of the extremely light, flexible and strong composite materials of late these things are reaching un-Godly lengths. They are very popular in Europe where the fishing is extremely limited as far as access and competitive "Course fishing" is the most popular form of competition. check out some of the videos regarding the Course fishing competitions in Italy, France, the UK and many of the Eastern European, countries. Cane Pole fishin to the Max!!!

I have seen these fishing courses on TV in Europe and they get points for catching weight and different species the main fish is the carp.

I've seen a few guys using these at Irvine for Trout. They will extend them out with a bit of powerbait or a nightcrawler on the end and then toss hand fulls of gravel or sand into the water nearby to simulate the sound feeding pellets make at the fish hatchery/farm.
