Ok I mentioned in the gathering post about yesterdays trip....me and 2 buddies tubed the place for a total of 2 fish. Ill start by saying the halibut are there...missed 2 including 1 that felt BIG. My buddy caught 2 sandbass though, about 14 inches each. Conditions were bad that day...lots of kelp and garbage floating arouns for some reason. Lots of bait fish near the barge..butin search of new spots we didnt fish in this area too much (we should have...).
A few days before I met Kona for some shore fishing. I was fishing strictly for halibut but had no love. Spotties were hitting Konas swimbait though but wouldn't stick.
Eventuallyii break out a 1oz spro bucktail (white) with a 3 inch razor clam T&C swimgrubas a trailer. I really want to master this lure (for striper fishing back home). The bucktail is one of the most versatile lures known to man, and on the east coast it absolutelymurders the stripers...and bluefish...and weakfish....and flounder...and well....everything
I kept fishing in less than optimal conditions(wind picked up) but kept going for this nice sandy.
PLEASE....DO NOT let this "bad" report give you a bad vibe about DPH. If Kona had stayed longer he would have stuck a few for sure....if we tubed that day we would have done awesome (I'm sure of it). As for yesterdays trip...when you try new spots it can be a hit or miss...andtthats what it was.
Just know this place is loaded with halibut and sandbass...more sandbass than spotties in my opinion. I might fish it again before the event and I'll let people know in case ya'll wanna fish it with me.
