I went out Sunday 7-31-2016 to LAB, from 0545 hrs to 1000 hrs.
Hooked up with the first bite at 0600 hrs. A short Turd Roller .... the skunk buster .... I'll take it!
At 0800 hrs I hooked into a short Grumpy that attacked and swallowed my hammerhead with 3" BH ... too deep to retrieve, so I cut off my gear and gave this fish a gift ... life.
That's it for my fish count .... the rest of the stuff that follows is just "Cookies and Milk Time" kinda stuff ......
Moving forward ....
I met a real nice guy that had kayaked-up on-me ... and so we fished and talked a bit (no bites) and then we went on our own ways ... but just as soon as he turned the corner out of site ..... instant "BLAMO" my [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]#10-lb rod with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] line goes ... BENDO ... and the line is screaming off my reel like a ballistic missle!!
Ha ha ha!!! ... my brain finally kicked-in that I was going to be spooled soon if I didn't start doing something soon ... I could even see the dark spool beneath the clear mono line and everything was just happening so quickly!!
With rod held vertically ... I turned directions and began power-kicking toward the line stealing fish and he finally stopped and I was now straight above it.
Phewww ... Ha ha ha ... I would like to think that I wore him out.
I concluded that there was no way that this monstrous creature was coming off the bottom unless it decided to ..... so I did the ol' keep the wood to em' and wait em' out game with hopes of bringing this one to shore.
After a couple of minutes into this "Putting The Wood To Em'" waiting game .... it decided to take off explosively and with an un-controllable ZZZzzzzzzzz ... it popped my Hammer-Head free!
I can't believe that I got it back ..... phewwww!!!
Another BIG Ray ..... what a blast!!!
It wasn't 10-minutes after that BIG fish encounter that fellow FTFF member David886720 kicked-up on me.
We got to fish a little bit and shared knowledge with one another. We had hoped to have had more time to fish but we soon learned that we had launched from the opposite ends of LAB and our session times were just about up. So David and I went our own ways.
It was very nice to have met you David. Next time Sir!
