I was in Fb arguing about this trout lol
With my daughters godfather no less lol
It seems ever since I OUTFISHED him last year at convict lake he is trying to discredit my mad skills lol

Anyway, I made the argument that the trout above resembles a brook trout rather than a brown lol only because of how splayed the red dots were and the white tips on the lower fins lol not to mention the tiny hint of red. I made the argument that it was a female brook.
But hey what do I know lol so I came to be judged by a jury of my peers lol
WHATS THE VERDICT? Brook or Brown

You're right, it's a brook trout. The red spots on a brown don't have the halos around them, for one thing and their spots are smaller and more abundant.

I was actually told "Don't look at spots!  Look at the vermiculations (worm-like pattern) on the back of brookies.  Browns lack this."

The juvenile Browns I use to catch in Northern Idaho never had that golden green color of a brookie, they were more trout ish in color. Funny thing, I never caught a trout in the 6 years I lived there, Brownies, Brookies, yellow perch, crappie and LMBs.......GT

Late reply.. After doing fish taxidermy for more than 35 years and seeing hundreds of Brown Trout and Brook Trout, you can settle the argument. That fish IS POSITIVELY a Brown Trout! I've seen Brownies with silver and/or light blue halos around their red spots, and I've seen them without any halos. White-tipped fins are seen on Browns, but some don't have this. Only Brook Trout have the wavy, wormy, wiggly lines along their backs. Browns won't have this. BUT,… here's the thing.. a cross breed of a Brown and a Brook is a "Tiger Trout", and they do have the worm looking vermiculations across their backs and sides. Do an image search on Tiger Trout. They are really neat looking trout.

Shux! I must concede to your knowledge sir.
Ya I only just learned of the vermiculations on the brooks.
I have seen tiger trout before but they were very small.

I'd say BROWN as well. The give a way that I was told was that trout have lighter colored backs with darker spots and chars have darker colored backs with light spots. Brown are trout and Brookies are char.
