June photo of friend Sonny's fish from Perris that I thought I'd share.  When a Bluegill covers entirely a man's hand, you know it's a trophy catch!  And Sonny does this regularly!  Awesome orange fin tips on this big boy!

Jerdon… This fish is over 11 inches. I don't think it's 12 or over because that's kind of Sonny's and mine magic mark that we make a big deal out of, it would have had it's photo taken on a measuring board. But still, where can you go and catch 10 to 11 inch Bluegill with some regularity with a decent chance of a 2 plus pounder?!

Jeff.. Yes, the bite for the BGs has slowed down with the cooler water, but we still get a few here and there. I would fish in deeper water 30 to 40 feet (along the boundary ropes at the tower is a good spot, but a long way to go from Sail Cove) and use a light colored trout tube bait and put either a waxwork or live cricket on it. Use trout gear and no more than 4 lb test. If you have a fish finder look for groups of smaller fish marks (BGs or crappies) and look for schools of shad. The larger BGs will be under the shad.

Thank you Komori I will be sure to have my fish finder with me for this trip. With any luck I will be able to find one of those Bull - Gills.

Nice Gill for sure and we see them regularly @ Perris and I hope most anglers are releasing the big ones .  they where sitting along the dam in 15-25' of water just a week and half ago and the gills , redear  where biting very well on tub jigs , tipped with wax worms and meal worms . I expect like Jeff Said with this weather and the lake turning over the fish would pull back to the 30' range as the  water chemistry, oxygenation and biomass try and stabilize .. I expect that the fishing will be slow for the next few weeks
