I shot this video of a float tube trip to Kolob Reservoir just outside of Zion National Park in Southern Utah. The stream that flows out of the reservoir cuts Kolob Canyon, which is a very popular hiking destination.
The date of my trip was 7/17/11. Kolob Reservoir has some nice Rainbows and Bonneville Cutthroat Trout. There is a slot limit in place that requires that all trout between 15" - 22" be released. Fishing was slow on this trip, but I managed one beautiful 18" Cutthroat that can be seen near the end of the video. I have had better days here. If you are lucky to be there at the right time, there can be some great dry fly action in the early morning and late afternoon.
The lake is loaded with crayfish. My fly of choice for trolling is a bead head, rubber legged, woolly bugger. Black, Olive, and Brown all work. Size 6.
