Got to Alamitos Bay on Saturday morning about 6am, launched my tube at low incoming tide from Mothers beach and worked my way south. I got a couple under the 2nd St. bridge, and picked up another 20 assorted sandies and spotties(and 1 micro-halibut) fishing outside the marinas. Most of the fish came from a 100 ft area. Nothing real big, but some of the spotties had serious ATTITUDE!!
All fish caught on 3" chartruese curl-tailed grubs on 1/4oz. ball-head leadheads. Off the water by 1pm.
I've got a question for anyone who fishes this harbor; is it legal to fish back in the marinas,(where the boats are docked) or do they chase you off? I caught most of my fish while casting down the channels between the docked boats(but staying outside the marinas in my tube).
Thanks, Glen

Nice morning gunfish.

I always found it funny that a majority of the fish caught would be in such a small area. Until I could identify what the attractions was anyways.

Thanks for sharing

Long Beach has a standing “no fishing” City ordinances that any law enforcement agency can enforce at any time.
Basically it is against the City Ordinance to cast or project anything at or near any of the moored boats in the Marina’s.
This a typical ordinance in all of the Harbors.
Now, whether or not they which to enforce the ordinances is another thing.

They will usually leave you alone in LAB and HH as long as nobody calls the authorities on you.

One time I was fishing inside of the Los Alamitos Bay Yacht Club when another fisherman got into a verbal confrontation with one of the people working there on the docks for the LABYC. They called the Harbor Sheriff and we were escorted out of there within 5 minutes of his call.

Also, today (Sunday) I was pulled over by the Harbor Police ( Shocked for speeding on my float tube) and they checked my fishing license.

Heads up:
If you plan to fish in Long Beach around Isle Grissom, the authorities won’t wait for somebody to call, they will immediately just run you out of there.

It always pays to be polite and to respect the property of others.

Dan, thanks for the info regarding the rules in LB. I completely agree about respecting others property/boats, I find I catch just as many in open channel areas as I do kick-trolling near docks and boats. Had a friendly conversation with one of the security guys walking around the marina, he didn't ask me to leave.
