Ok, mentioned, a bit ago that I would be checking out the carp guys online and let you know what I was learning.
Well, what I am learning is that these guys are catching some really big fish!
I am also learning that they are as coy as a southern debutante.
So I have been searching thru the mass of other sites for more specific info regarding tackle and technique. Here is what I have concluded so far.
1) First of all there seem to be carp everywhere there is water.( I think I kind of knew this but was still surprised to find out how extensive their range was.)
2) They (carp) get freaking HUGE! Some of the pictures I am finding online are kinda scary! (they are teasing me!)
3) Almost like fly fishing, the tackle, particularly the terminal tackle, is pretty specific, and there is a lot to it. Fortunately it does not seem too expensive. But there is a lot of it ! ( check out "euro style" carping)
4) Sadly I am not sure it is a float tubers kind of fishing. Every thing I have read so far is about STILL fishing, soaking bait from the bank. ( still researching this point)
Finally, carp fisherman, a lot like flyfisherman, are a culture unto themselves. They are extremely reverent of their quarry and the idea of killing a carp makes them wail and gnash their teeth! They are well aware of how lowly carp are regarded of in this country, and are, to their credit, trying very hard to change that.
Hmmm,... well I 'm gonna keep digging, and gleaning. Will get back to ya...
