Might want to check but I think it is closed. All that means is that you have to park outside of the gate and hike in, you have to have wilderness pass. Beautiful lake

Have you ever caught bass at Jenks before? Last time I was up at the lake the guy that runs the place said the last one caught was over 10lbs, but it was 3-4 months ago. Apparently the problem is they are so hard to catch because the stoker trout keep them fat and full all the time.

He said the only place he's seen them caught is by the tree on the right under the very thick brush and pads or on the opposite end under a tree in the water.

In all honesty I wouldn't even bother with the trout. They are probably some of the smallest trout I've ever seen. I've used bigger sardines for bait. The few I caught were so small I could barely notice I had one on my line and that's using 2lb test. Most were about 4-6" in size and the largest was only 8" if that. I like fishing and all, but had I know they were going to be that small I would have just used jigs and barbless hooks so I could toss them back.

If you do go with a swimbait make sure it's weedless tons of weeds in that lake which probably makes the bass that much harder to catch.

Jenks is a beautiful lake alot of tubers us the lake you can have a 20+ small trout day easily I have seen monster bass off the shore as i used to fish from the shore and seen what I thought was a torpedo sized carp but it was a bass, once I released a small trout and BAM at least 3lb bass came out of the weeds and swallowed the sucker. if the gate is closed keep going down the road to the camp ground on the other side of the lake you can park there, water may be cold. What time you going.

Harp that's exactly what I heard, lots of big bass just killing poor helpless trout. I caught my limit of 5 trout in less than an hour and just used them for chumming in the salt. Now that i'm thinking about it I should have just put a big hook on it and tossed it out and tried to catch a bass with it!!

Jenk's is by far my favorate SoCal lake to tube, great scenery and though the fish can sometimes be small you can have some WFO days.

You can call the Mill Creek ranger station to see if the parking lot is still open or not and if the lake is slow you can allways go down and fish the Santa Ana River near 7 Oaks resort and get a burger while youre at it.

I might be interested in meeting you up there on Sunday morning if its still open.

I don't think so. A lot of sunfish and blue gill, I didn't see any shad. I've only been twice and never in a tube though.

Hey tubin'
Shad at Jenks? Maybe , but not likely. Too cold of a winter for them to survive. Dead give away in the picture. Coniferous trees, slow sloping grade and low soil content, (exposed granite). Means high altitude, shallow water, and bed rock bottom. No heat retention, and infertile water. I have never been there but my guess is, it is above 6000 ft. ( the pinetree line in southern California ) . betcha a dollar there are no shad.. sorry
