Know Big Bear. Don’t blame you for hanging it up through winter.
I may give one lower local lake a try during winter at home. Can be pretty nice out. Upper lakes get frozen over. Would have gotten out this weekend. Have to head out early (again) for mechanical truck work. Cutting home time short alot because of that. Have to admit. I still feel like I’m on vacation compared to what I used to do. Stay out 3 months at a time.

phew. Hope the Ex comes out good and you can hang on to it. I had an issue with mine earlier this year. The GEM module went out and couldn’t find a replacement. Down for about a month and had to go to Bakersfield to get the right one. Easy swap once I found one and been going good since, knock on wood. Still pretty when I wash and wax her up.

So back to the fishing part. Where did you launch at BiG Bear? Been wanting to float tube up there. We usually make some shore fishing runs once or twice a year , mostly like right now in the fall with great success.

You can launch anywhere on the lake that has public access. Majority of North shore wide open
South shore has more private property but still has a number of access points, some you have to hike down.

My favorite places include boom line by the dam, china island, red house, greys landing, windy point, observatory, west boat ramp juniper point, East boat ramp, eagle point, pines tavern, Boulder bay.

Great smallmouth and northern strain bass fishery up here’s catfish and crappie.

Getting cold so trout only game in town until parts of lake starts icing over. Just watch the wind if tubing.

Lots of fish from recent tournament  plants and holdovers starting to get active.  Most trout heading east as higher dissolved oxygen (> 5ppm) and ideal temps for feeding are (52-58).

Big bear municipal water district publishes regular limno data I use to decide where to launch , depth to fish

Need lake permit and inspection for tubes, boats, kayaks yearly

That’s great information. We’ve mostly fished for trout in the fall working most of the north shore . Love the little cove at Juniper Point . I’ve heard the observatory is a great spot to float tube since shore access is limited Thanks for sharing . Most likely won’t make it up this year before it ices over, have a lot going on with my mom.

That was a tough hike down after your surgery.
When there is snow I just throw the tube down over the rocks so I can scramble down without drama
